Sport at LHC
Lourdes Hill College places strong value on sport as an integral part of student development, offering a
broad and inclusive range of sporting opportunities. The College is committed to creating an
environment that encourages students of all abilities to participate, grow, and enjoy the benefits of
physical activity. Through its diverse programs, LHC promotes the development of individual skills,
teamwork, leadership, and self-discipline, all within a supportive atmosphere of fun and enjoyment. The
College strives to provide as many teams as needed, guided by student interest and the availability of
venues and coaching.
The sporting program is designed to be holistic and balanced, aiming to nurture character that reflects
the College’s ethos, build physical skills that enhance both personal and team performance, and
strengthen House and College spirit. It also encourages students to develop lifelong sporting habits and
contributes to their overall health and wellbeing. Additionally, the program supports students in
accessing representative sporting pathways where possible, connecting them with further opportunities
to excel.
LHC’s strong sporting culture is supported by an excellent range of facilities. These include the Good
Samaritan Centre, a large multi-purpose indoor venue used for Aerobics, Netball, Basketball, Volleyball,
and other co-curricular activities; the Stella Centre, a covered dual-court complex for Netball,
Basketball, Tennis, and Volleyball; and Tugulawa, a fully equipped water sports facility featuring storage
for Kayaking, Rowing and Sailing, as well as a gym. The College also has a 25m outdoor swimming pool
and uses the Morningside AFL oval nearby for sport lessons and co-curricular activities. Together, these
facilities create an outstanding environment for students to pursue both participation and performance
in sport.
