Performing Arts Program
Lourdes Hill College offers a vibrant and inclusive Performing Arts
program, providing students with opportunities to grow as musicians,
dancers and actors through high-quality tuition, ensembles,
productions and performance experiences.
Music
Students can participate in a wide range of instrumental and vocal
ensembles, catering from beginner to advanced levels. Private lessons
are available for most instruments, including strings, woodwind, brass,
percussion, piano, guitar, harp and voice. Ensemble opportunities
include concert bands, jazz band, string ensembles, flute, clarinet,
percussion and guitar groups, along with choirs for both junior and
senior students. Advanced groups such as Symphonic Band, Chamber
Strings and Soul Sisters require an audition. Music students perform
regularly at College events, community functions and the Queensland
Catholic Colleges Music Festival (QCMF), with further extension
opportunities available through SHEP and AHEP.
Dance
The College’s co-curricular dance program offers auditioned dance
troupes for students in Years 7–12, with rehearsals held outside of
school hours. Troupes include Excite, Expressions, Synergy and
Advanced Innovate, with students preparing for College events,
concerts and eisteddfods. A single annual fee covers all troupe
participation and costumes.
Drama
Students can enrol in private drama lessons or join drama ensembles
to develop skills in performance, communication, creative thinking and
theatre production. Lessons are taught by specialist educators and
may include screen acting for advanced students. Drama ensembles
include:
Centre Stage (Year 7) – an introduction to acting, improvisation and
scene work
Encore (Year 8–12) – a collaborative theatre or film project where
students may perform or take on creative production roles
Students also have opportunities to take part in the College drama
soiree, eisteddfods, examinations and state-wide events such as
Queensland Youth Shake Fest.
